Coenzyme Q-10 (CoQ-10) is a 1, 4-benzoquinone vitamin-like oil soluble substance and compound that forms naturally in the human body. Coenzyme Q-10 has been said to be used to help cells grow and protect them from the kind of damage that can lead to cancer. Coenzyme Q-10 is used by many as a home remedy, natural health supplement, alternative medicine, and naturopathic remedy. Other names for Coenzyme Q-10 include: Coenzima Q-10, Ubidcarenone, and Ubiquinone-10.

Coenzyme Q-10 has been said to be helpful in maintaining good cardiovascular health. Studies have suggested a correlation between Coenzyme Q-10 deficiency and heart failure. It is available as both a dietary supplement and as an alternative medicine or home remedy. Another health issues that some say will be alleviated by using Coenzyme Q-10 as a natural medicine are migraine headaches. Studies have purportedly shown that coenzyme Q-10 has been effective for migraines; however, the sample size of the study was only around forty.

Studies on animals suggest that coenzyme Q-10 may have some medicinal use as a naturopathic medicine for boosting the immune system and making the body more able to stave off an infection. Other diseases and health problems that coenzyme Q-10 may potentially be used for as a homeopathic remedy includes: chest pain (angina), congestive heart failure (CHF), high blood pressure, diabetes, gum disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, muscular dystrophy, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), Lyme disease, and maybe even some types of cancer.

Because coenzyme Q-10 levels drop as people grow older, it has been suggested that coenzyme may actually be used to increase one’s life span. Studies have shown it being effective with bacteria; however in mice, it was ineffective.
