Chamomile or camomile is a type of plant or herb that is in the family Asteraceae. Chamomile is sometimes used to produce health products, particularly in alternative medicine, herbal cures, homeopathic remedies, naturopathic products, natural remedies, home remedies, and other vitamin or herbal based supplements. Other names for Chamomile include: German chamomile, Matricaria recutita, and Chamomilla recutita.
Health Benefits of Chamomile
When made into an infusion, this herb is said to have been particularly useful as a home remedy sleeping aid. Chrysin flavonoid is said to be a key component of chamomile, that it is suggested that it is this flavonoid that has the anxiolytic properties that are believed to possess the sleep inducing properties. Due to the fact that chamomile has the potential to contract the uterine, the U.S. National Institutes of Health does not approve the use of this herbal supplement to women who are pregnant or are nursing mothers.
Some research suggests that chamomile may have some naturopathic medicinal uses as an effective home remedy for depression and anxiety. It is also somewhat popular in Russia for treating stomach problems, muscle pain, the common cold, and insomnia. In addition, chamomile has been used to help with gastrointestinal maladies such as flatulence and diarrhea. It may also be applied topically for certain skin problems and ulcers as well.
