Bitter Orange

Bitter orange is a type a fruit that is native to the East African and tropic Asiatic countries. The Latin name of this potential home remedy is Citrus aurantium. It is grown and harvested throughout the world, including the United States. The tree from which this orange is grown has leaves in which its oil is extracted for things like home remedies, herbal supplements to cure various diseases, and other uses in alternative medicine.

Bitter Orange is used in foods (as flavoring), in cosmetic products (as a perfume), and other uses. Other names for bitter orange include: Seville orange, bigarade orange, Seville orange, sour orange, Zhi shi, and marmalade orange. Bitter orange is sometimes used in herbal medicine as a kind of stimulant. It may also have some uses for suppressing one’s appetite. However, many consumer groups advise against the consumption of synephrine (which may be an active ingredient of bitter orange). Synephrine may be the cause of a number of deaths.

Bitter Orange may have some uses as a natural remedy for a multitude of different ailments. It may be a herbal cure for things like nausea, constipation, indigestion, heartburn, nasal congestion, appetite loss, skin problems, athlete’s foot, ringworms, and other conditions. Like other herbs it appears to be a panacea, but scientific evidence (as usual) seems to be quite limited.
