Lactobacillus

Lactobacillus is a type of bacteria called Doderlein’s bacillus. It is in the genus microaerophilic and is found in the gastrointestinal tract and vagina in the human body. Though Lactobacillus is a bacterium it is what is known as friendly bacteria. Lactobacillus is often used as a home remedy, herbal dietary supplement, naturopathic medicine, natural remedy, and homeopathic medicine due to their health benefits. Lactobacillus can be found in certain foods that have been fermented such as yogurt.

Other names for Lactobacillus include: Acidophilus, Bifidus, Brevis, Casei, Probiotic, and Lactospores.

 

Health Benefits of Lactobacillus

 

Lactobacillus is often times used as a home remedy or natural medicine to treat health conditions such as diarrhea (traveler’s diarrhea, diarrhea related to antibiotic use and infections diarrhea like rotaviral diarrhea), IBS, Chron’s disease, colic, colon inflammation, necrotizing enterocolitis, and bacteria related uclers. Lactobacillus has also may be a natural medicine for UTI, cold prevention, and other types of infections.

As a probiotic supplement, Lactobacillus may have some health benefits as an anti-inflammatory. Some have also suggested that it may have some anti-cancer and anti- tumor properties.

People have also reportedly used Lactobacillus topically to treat skin problems such as blisters, eczema, acne, and canker sores. Lactobacillus may also have health benefits when used as an alternative medicine for high cholesterol, Lyme disease, poor immunity, and lactose intolerance.

Lactobacillus is somewhat popular with women due to its potential health benefits when treating maladies such as infections in the vaginal region and urinary tract infections.
