Flaxseed and Flaxseed Oil

Flaxseed and flaxseed oil are often times used to make a wide range of alternative medicines, natural cures, home remedies, holistic & homeopathic treatments, naturopathic medicines, and herbal dietary supplements. Flaxseed is derived from a plant called Linum usitatissimum in the genus Linum; family Linaceae. Flaxseed is native to India, some parts of the Mediterranean, and Egypt. Other names for flaxseed include: Flachs, Alasi, Ailviraaii, Brown-Seeded Flax, Brown Flaxseed, Common Flax, Flax meal, Golden Flax, Kattan, Lin Textile, Winterlien, Linseed Flax, and Malsag.

Flax is known to be an excellent source of fiber as well as lignans (which contain omega-3 fatty acids). Flaxseeds themselves and flaxseed oil are said to be useful as a home remedy or natural medicine to treat different sorts of maladies.

Flaxseed is said to be an effective herbal cure or homeopathic holistic medicine for treating ailments such as: GI tract diseases, damage to the colon, constipation, diverticultis, irritable colon, IBS, ulcerative colitis, stomach problems such as gastritis, small intestine inflammation (enteritis), and problems with the large intestine such as ulcerative colitis.

Flax seeds may lower cholesterol (may help with atherosclerosis), may have some benefits as a home remedy or alternative medicine for certain types of cancer such as prostate or breast cancer. It may also be a homeopathic remedy for stabilizing blood-sugar levels. Some also use it as a laxative and it may also have some antioxidant properties. In addition flax may be used to lower blood pressure and be a herbal medicine for hypertension. It has also been suggested that it may have some uses as a holistic remedy for treating coronary artery disease as well.

Other disease flaxseed has been purported to be a natural remedy for include: ADHD, problems associated with menopause, pain in the breast region, lupus, kidney diseases, obesity (as a weight loss supplement), depression, malaria, rheumatoid arthritis, infections in the bladder, and maybe eve HIV and AIDS.

Still others have reported used flaxseed as a home remedy for a common sore throat, a cough, and infections in the respiratory tract. It also has been said to be useful in treating osteoporosis. Flaxseed is sometimes applied as a holistic medicine when used topically to treat various skin problems such as burns, acne, boils, psoriasis, inflammation of the skin, and eczema as well.

Flaxseed oil has been said to be an effective home remedy or natural medicine for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), infections in the vaginal region, and atherosclerosis.
